Skin Cancer claim/ Class 3 NI claim
Thread on the RAMC OTTs on Facebook

A recent thread I started re black soldiers claiming compensation for cold injuries created some comment. One in particular from Dr Mark Davies.......in reply to my 'reply':

Reimbursed should have read recompensed. There is a scheme by which veterans who have served overseas can claim compensation if they develop skin cancers. I have referred people to it in the past. Number of hot climate holidays is irrelevant. Address below

Military Skin Cancer
Medical Services Manager
Department of Social Security
War Pensions Agency
NORCROSS
Blackpool FY5 3YX

01253-858-858

The number given by Mark - 01253 - 858-858 is incorrect - it changed 10+ years ago - it is now a private house number.

The correct number is: 0800 1692277 (7).

The system for skin cancer claims is very much the same as normal injury claims and processed in the same way.

If you have served in a 'hot' climate and have or think you have skin cancer contact the number above and a claim form will be sent to you - fill in and return - then wait out (agency) will contact your GP/Consultant for details and you may require a medical - details need not (like normal claims) be recorded on your service medical records.

If the claim is successful (and there is no guarantee that it will be) compensation will be paid at the following percentages of disability:

1-5% = £2834.
6-14% = £6300.
15-19% = £11018
20% + weekly pension commensurate with % disability.

Hopefully we don't have anyone with this condition but it pays to know the facts.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - Pension Help For Military Wives

If your spouse accompanied you overseas and was unable to work and therefore unable to build up an entitlement to the state pension it was tough......THINGS HAVE CHANGED!

Under new rules spouses will be able to earn credits (Class 3 National Insurance contributions) to fill in gaps dating back to 6th April 1975. Widows, civil partners and divorcees can also apply as long as they were married while overseas.

In Brief:

You can get the new National Insurance credits if you:
were born on or after 6 April 1953 (if a woman) or 6 April 1951 (if a man)
are married to a member of Her Majesty’s armed forces (their spouse) or have registered a civil partnership with a member of Her Majesty’s armed forces (their civil partner)
have been on an accompanied assignment outside the UK at any time since 6 April 1975
make an application to Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC)
At the time of posting, your husband, wife or civil partner must have been insured under the UK National Insurance scheme (ie, had paid, been treated as having paid or been credited with National Insurance contributions).

You can still apply if you are now widowed, divorced or have had your civil partnership dissolved provided you were married or in a civil partnership at the time of the accompanied posting.

For more info go to:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...-3-credits

You will have to register on line (simple process) and you will then get a unique reference number.

Regards
Ken
